Definition:

Epistemology is the branch of philosophy that studies the nature, origin, scope, and validity of knowledge. It deals with questions like: What is knowledge? How do we acquire knowledge? What are the limits of knowledge? What justifies belief in something as true? At its core, epistemology explores how humans come to understand and justify their beliefs about the world.
